This week, 1st-6th March, is National Careers Week and it aims to inform and inspire the next generation as they enter the world of work. We asked Pendleton Together staff to share the twist and turns in their career journey to show how everyone must start somewhere.
Sarah Davies has worked for Pendleton Together for 6 years. Sarah is an Employment Initiatives Officer and here she shares what her role entails.
I have had several years’ experience working for Salford Council. I have also worked in housing before, but when I was made redundant, I decided to try something slightly different. This is when I first became an Employment and Training Consultant for a skills and work organisation. After 2 years in this role, I finally came back to the housing sector when I joined Pendleton Together as an Employment Initiatives Officer.
I got into this role because I wanted to gain experience in something different to housing management. My role is really varied as it involves elements of housing as well as skills and work. I was delighted when I was offered this job, I’ve never been the best at interviews and my predecessor was extremely well thought of, so I knew I had big shoes to fill.
On a typical day I could be supporting apprentices, helping residents with their interview skills, helping them write their CV, and giving one-to-one support to a resident who has various barriers preventing them from progressing into training or employment.
I really enjoy meeting with and supporting so many different people in a variety of situations. I also like attending the partner meetings and finding out about all the support that is on offer for our residents. It’s a very enjoyable role that is extremely varied, no two days are the same. If you like to support people, then I would recommend any work in Housing.
I’m very proud of the support that Together Housing Group and other organisations offer residents in Salford. It is always memorable when I receive thanks from people I have helped into employment or training.
