Community Choir to hit high notes for Salford Shoppers

Pendleton Together Community Choir are inviting local residents to enjoy two special Choir performances at popular Salford shopping destinations this Christmas.

Putting a modern spin on everybody’s favourite Christmas classics, the Choir will be holding two separate performances on Thursday 20th December. The festivities will be kicking off at Salford Shopping Centre, where the group will be gathered around the Christmas tree at 1pm.

Once they’ve finished rocking around the Christmas tree, the Choir will move on to Tesco Extra on Pendleton Way, where the show will start at 2pm.

Lynne Harrison, Community Initiatives Officer at Pendleton Together, said: “Our Community Choir has really hit the ground running this year. After the Choir was formed eight weeks ago, we have already had a fantastic turnout and a lot of enthusiasm from local residents.

“Singing is good for the soul and the community; people are having the time of their lives and making new friends. We’re making the most of the festive period by putting on two special Christmas performances in central locations. This is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to get out into the community and spread festive cheer.”

The Community Choir has proved a hit amongst residents. As well as being a part of a fun and stimulating project, residents have developed new friendships and a sense of community. While studies show that singing improves our mood and helps with stress, depression and anxiety, it has encouraged local residents to take pride in their talents while combating social isolation.

One member of the Choir said: “After rehearsals I feel uplifted and buzzing. I never thought that I could feel so happy, I look forward to the rehearsals and never want them to end. I have loved the great company and companionship, it has helped me to gain confidence. Roll on Wednesdays!”

Other members described the Choir as “a fantastic mood lifter”, “a great experience for my lungs”, “health boosting”, “encouraging community spirit” and “a great experience shared with others”.
