Scott Collinge will be a familiar face on our estates.
The Pendleton Together resident is now embarking on a two-year caretaking apprenticeship after he successfully completed a work placement.
And now the 31-year-old is hoping to turn that into a full-time job. After being unemployed for a few years, Scott got the chance to do a work placement after a trip to the job centre.
He completed a total of 10 weeks before applying for an apprenticeship and getting the job.
And as he performs his duties on our blocks and communities, including Thorn Court, Malus Court, Salix Court, he’s taking e-learning and college courses to complete his qualifications.
And Scott admitted he loves his new job.
“It’s my job to make sure the communal areas stay clean and tidy and I really enjoy it. No two days are the same and I really enjoy being out and about.
“It can be a dirty job at times but that’s all part of it. I like to meet new people and help them where I can.
“And I’m enjoying the college courses as well. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in a classroom but it’s been good.
“I’ve had a lot of help from my colleagues and I’ve met some really good people so I’m really happy to have got this chance and I hope it turns into a full-time job and the end of my apprenticeship.”
Pendleton Together’s apprenticeship programme is amongst the best in the country, and Scott had a piece of advice for anyone looking for a new opportunity.
He added: “If you get a chance to do it, go for it. Put your name forward and see if you can get one of the vacancies. I did and I’m very happy.”
So if you see Scott out and about, be sure to say hello!
