Extra Care Gives Julie Security
A resident in a Together Housing supported housing scheme has spoken of the importance of Extra Care and the difference it has made to her life.
Julie Gray moved to the group’s schemes to be near her son after her Teeside home became too large to manage. During an interview for BBC Radio Leeds just before Christmas, Julie said she felt safe there: “I’m very happy and settled. It takes all the worry away from having to manage the maintenance, gardening and decorating.
“With friends living far away it’s easy to get lonely, but we’re all together and you need people around as you get older. The staff are very good, very pleasant and helpful and arrange lots of good events. I enjoy singing, keep fit and circle dancing. The more you do, the more you get out of it.”
Together Housing Group, who operate 14 extra care schemes across the North of England, are meeting with MP Craig Whittaker later in the month to discuss the future of supported housing as part of the National Federation of Housing’s Starts At Home campaign.
