Faulty tumble dryer causes tower block fire
A faulty tumble dryer is believed to have started a fire in an 18-storey tower block in west London. The fire caused damage across five floors.
Whirlpool has recalled the tumble dryer. In some cases, fluff can come into contact with the heating element and cause a risk of fire. The affected brands are: Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda.
Use the online model checker - https://safety.hotpoint.eu/ - now to check whether your tumble dryer is affected.
If necessary, Whirlpool will arrange a visit from an engineer, free of charge, to modify your tumble dryer.
The manufacturer advises that you don’t leave your dryer unattended whilst it’s working as an extra precaution. For example, don’t leave the dryer on when you leave the house or go to sleep.
You should also check and clean the filter after every cycle and ensure proper ventilation, as directed in the operating manual.
