sun safetyAfter the freezing winter, the hazy and crazy days in the summer sun are what everyone dreams of.

But not taking safety precautions can turn them into a nightmare.

But, by following the five S’s, you can avoid any mishaps this summer.

SLIP – on a shirt. Light layers work best, especially natural fibres like cotton. You can buy SPF 50 shirts and clothing now.

SLAP – on a sun hat, one with at least a 3” brim all the way around to protect your head and neck.

SLOP – on some sunscreen (at least SPF 30). Try and choose a water-resistant brand with both UVA and UVB coverage (both are types of damaging ultraviolet light.) Also, make sure the brand you choose is PABA (Para-aminobenzoic) free as this can cause an allergic reaction in some people and can stain clothing.

SLURP – down some water. Staying hydrated in the sun is very important.

SLIDE – into the shade. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10am-4pm.

Following these simple tips can ensure you keep safe in the sun and will help your summer go with a swing!
