Shelagh Delaney Day on 25th November will celebrate the life and works of Salford’s most celebrated playwright, on what would have been her 76th birthday.
Delaney rose to prominence in the late 1950s with “A Taste of Honey,” a gritty drama set in Salford at the time.
The occasion, held at Salford Arts Theatre, will feature a re-enactment of a scene from "A Taste of Honey", a Shelagh Delaney-inspired art exhibition and a screening of the film Dance With A Stranger, for which she wrote the screenplay.
In commemoration, Salford Arts Theatre are putting together a collection of short stories. The winning story will be read out loud by a professional actor and the best twenty will appear in an anthology..The winner will have their work performed by a professional actor at “The Close To Home Show” at Salford Arts Theatre, Wednesday 25th November and Thursday 26th November 2015 at 7.30pm.
