Dementia champions putting the issue on the map

dementia picThe newly-formed Salford Dementia Support Group is helping people living with the condition, thanks to funding from the Pendleton Co-op.

Local resident Gillian Whiteley, who was diagnosed with Dementia at an early age, has set the group up after spotting the opportunity when she was a volunteer with the Salford Time Bank.

The sessions are held at the respite area at the Pendleton Together office Brotherton House

Gillian’s group uses board games, fancy dress and craft activities, to engage with Dementia sufferers. The group is also open to carers of Dementia sufferers who can join in with the activities or just relax.

Gillian would like to use the support group to raise awareness amongst local organisations who provide services to Dementia sufferers and make Salford a Dementia friendly city.
