Health Week is a hit
Residents are pledging to make 2018 their healthiest year yet after kicking the New Year off with a healthy start during the Pendleton Together Health Week.
Health Week took place on the week commencing Monday 15th January. Residents took part in a free programme of fun and healthy activities to find out how they can get healthy and stay healthy, while keeping a healthy bank balance. The week was aimed at promoting better health and wellbeing amongst the local community.
The week of events kicked off with Health Day at Brotherton House, a free drop-in event which proved popular amongst residents with a fantastic turnout. Residents enjoyed a free healthy food buffet, stalls with freebies, fitness level monitoring, credit advice and stop smoking guidance. Residents described the afternoon as “friendly”, “a warm atmosphere” and “a great way to bring the neighbourhood together”.
Following Health Day, residents took part in a number of free Health Week taster sessions hosted by the Health Improvement Team. A ‘cooking on a budget’ session took place at Lombardy Court, as well as chair based-exercises in Beech Court and a relaxation session in Thorn Court. Beverley Davis said: “We had a cooking on a budget class here at Lombardy Court, it was very tasty. We made turkey burgers and couscous – very yummy!”
Residents enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and meet new people while pledging their commitments to a healthy New Year. You can see what pledges our residents made in the short video below.
