Smithybrook View opens its doors to welcome the community

IT IS OPEN house at Smithybrook View in Clay Cross this month - a newly-opened complex of apartments for older people who have assessed care and support needs.

The new development of 90 self-contained apartments in the heart of the town, off Market Street - on site of the old Clay Cross Infant School - welcomed its first residents at the beginning of September and offers a mix of affordable rented and ‘for sale’ apartments for the over 55s.

The scheme, which still has apartments available, is one of three ‘easy living with care’ developments owned and operated by a partnership involving Chevin Housing Group (part of the Together Housing Group) and Derbyshire County Council.

On Saturday 19 September, Smithybrook View will be throwing open its doors to the local community, as well as friends and relatives of residents who would like to see the scheme for themselves.

The open day, which runs from 11am - 2pm, includes a chance to check out the scheme’s onsite facilities including a restaurant, lounge, hairdressers with health and beauty suite and view the show apartment. All have been carefully and sensitively designed to make living easier for people aged 55 and over.

Local retailers will have stalls and visitors will have the chance to enjoy afternoon tea and take part in a tombola. Staff from Chevin Housing will be able to provide information about the options available at Smithybrook View.

There will also be a chance to learn more about the tailored care and support which is available to residents of each of Derbyshire’s new ‘easy living with care’ schemes. All apartments are wheelchair and dementia friendly and are designed to promote independent living.

Derbyshire County Council’s Home Care team are onsite 24/7 to respond to emergencies as well as provide packages of planned care to residents.

Sarah McCallion, Extra Care Project Manager for Together Housing Group, said: “We’d like to welcome everyone to Smithybrook View to see for themselves what this type of scheme has to offer.

“The development has been specifically designed for people who need a little bit of support to remain in their own homes. The first residents are moving in and beginning to settle into their new homes - and the fact they can maintain their independence while having the peace of mind which comes from having access to onsite care and support.”

If you are interested in finding out more about what life could be like at Smithybrook View pop along to the open day.
