Lombardy Court residents take a trip down Memory Lane
Lombardy Court residents recently took part in an exciting project with Sonder Radio using their favourite songs to bring back fond memories.
Sonder Radio is a local radio station which presents itself as a social enterprise for elders living within a care environment and independently in the community. The radio station is delivering a series of workshops to older people across Salford using music to evoke memories and emotions.
The workshop took place at Lombardy Court on Tuesday 9th January focusing around music, spoken word, memories, sharing stories and mental health and wellbeing. Residents were able to share their favourite songs from different stages in their lives and the memories they associate with them. Amongst the favourites were The Beatles, Shirley Bassey, The Killers and Barbara Streisand.
Residents were proud to share their happy memories and reflect on unique stories from their childhoods and beyond. Using specialist equipment, residents then recorded their favourite stories and memories, which were edited and turned into a recording with their favourite songs and showcased at a special event.
The celebration event took place on Wednesday 17th January at St. Sebastian Community Centre where Sonder Radio showcased the great content gathered by residents from across Salford. Tea, cake and lunch were all provided and the event was open to residents and their friends and family.
