The safety and wellbeing of all Pendleton Together residents has always been our top priority, and we have been working behind the scenes on developing the best methods of ensuring we replace the cladding on our nine blocks as quickly and safely as possible. Our work aims to deliver an overall solution that meets requirements now and in the future.
CLADDING & COMPARTMENTALISATION
Works will be packaged into three stages and we are now pleased to announce that Wates Construction has been selected as the preferred bidder at this stage. Wates will be working on the three areas that we have written to you about before. These are:
- Designing a cladding and insulation system and then undertaking cladding works
- Undertaking any necessary works in communal areas
- Carrying out an inspection in every home to ascertain if any additional measures are required and then completing these to a high standard with minimal disruption.
Formed more than 120 years ago, Wates is now one of the largest construction firms in the UK and, four generations later, is still managed by the Wates family. Wates have been an ‘early adopter’ in implementing cladding and fire safety solutions based around the findings of the Government’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety (known as the Hackitt Review).
Wates will spend the summer working through a design solution for recladding and fire safety works. This means that they will be considering all cladding options available in the UK in order to identify the most suitable alternative for Pendleton. We will organise drop in meetings, most likely in the late summer, where more specific details can be discussed and more detailed questions answered.
Wates expect to commence the external works in September 2019. We will make sure residents of all blocks are kept informed throughout, via these newsletters, e-newsletters, a special section of our website and our social media accounts. You can also ask any questions you might have by calling 0300 555 5567.
Truline have now completed their inspection programme in each block. Truline and Wates will be working closely together to deliver a door replacement programme in communal areas in each block as necessary. It is expected that this work will take place over the summer. We will ensure that residents in each block are contacted when more information is available.
Pendleton Together is working closely with Fieldway to agree the most appropriate way to manage the installation of fire alarms in communal areas. Once this has been agreed we will be contacting every resident to arrange to install a new alarm in your homes.
